Con Dao Museum
The Con Dao Museum displays historical artifacts from the Con Dao region, providing insights into the area’s history and culture. It houses 2000 documents and artifacts, offering a deep understanding of Con Dao’s past to present. Visitors learn about the infamous Con Dao prison, known as “Hell on Earth”.

Hang Duong Cemetery
The island holds historical significance as a prison under French and US control, with numerous historic sites to explore. One of the most significant and emotional sites is the Hang Duong cemetery, where nearly 2,000 of the 20,000 victims of the prisons are buried. Unfortunately, only around a third of these individuals are known by name, resulting in many anonymous graves in the cemetery.

Con Dao Prison
One of the most impressive things to do in Con Dao is to visit the old prisons & was a grim symbol of oppression and brutality in Vietnam’s history. Built in 1862 by French colonialists and then used by American imperialists, it was a notorious facility for incarcerating political prisoners and dissidents.

One way to fully explore the island is by riding a motorbike along the coast. You can easily stop at vantage points to see the islands in the archipelago, fishing boats, and enjoy the views.

Hạt Bàng - Tropical Almond’s Seed
Roasted terminalia catappa seeds are a specialty of Con Dao Island, made from the seeds of the terminalia catappa tree, known locally as “bang”. Many old bang trees on the island help protect against waves and winds, provide shade, and boost income for the people. Processing is manual with no fixed recipe, leading to unique final products based on workers’ experience and taste.

Better To Know Coconut Ice Cream
Walking around Con Dao, it is not difficult to see the idyllic ice cream shops called “Con Dao Coconut Ice Cream”. The reason for this name is because ice cream is made from typical coconuts in Con Dao, so it has a very unique flavor, attracting diners. The reason Con Dao ice cream has its own flavor is because it retains the essence of ice cream ingredients such as flour, milk and coconut milk, handmade, without overusing industrial flavor.
